GURRUMUL screens at Perth Festival before heading to Berlinale

Western Australian director Paul Damien Williams will be introducing his feature documentary GURRUMUL, to open a two-week screening season at Perth Festival on Monday, 12 February at UWA Somerville, before the film makes its Berlinale premiere on 19 February.

GURRUMUL will have a general release in Australian cinemas nationally from 26 April.

GURRUMUL is a definitive portrait of one of the world’s greatest musicians, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu. Blind from birth, he found purpose and meaning through songs and music inspired by his community and country on Elcho Island in far North East Arnhem Land.

Filmed over many years and completed just prior to Gurrumul’s passing in July 2017, GURRUMUL is a beautiful celebration of his life and career. It shows a man who connected people in profound ways and who shouldered vast responsibilities of Australian cultures, and points to an extraordinary legacy.
