Screenwest, in partnership with Carers WA announce details of new disability led screen project initiative, Filming Our Future: Our Choice, Our Voice, Our Way. Applications for WA Producers or Production Companies open on Monday, 8 March 2021 and close on Monday, 12 April 2021 at 5:00pm AWST.
The Filming Our Future: ‘Our Choice, Our Voice, Our Way’ initiative will explore the way sports and physical activities can drive inclusion and community cohesion and provide the opportunity for a Western Australian Producer or Production Company to work with emerging storytellers and practitioners living with disability.
Together the storytellers and the successful producer or production company will develop and produce 15 short-form screen projects, which highlight what a more inclusive and accessible future should look like for them, their peers and other members of the WA community.
The call out for participants will occur in three stages:
- Applications for a Western Australian Producer or Production Company to develop and produce the short projects
- Four paid, Inclusion Mentee Opportunities for people living with a disability, to work under the direction of mentors employed by the production company, in the roles of Writer/Director, Director of Photography, Sound Recordist and Editor
- Call Out for stories from storytellers living with a disability.
The successful producer or production company will be eligible for up to $92,000 in funding, and, with guidance from Screenwest and Carers WA, will be responsible for all phases of the development, production, post-production and delivery of the short projects.
Carers WA Business Development and Disability Services Manager Paul Rogers said, “Carers WA are excited to once again be partnering with Screenwest in an empowering initiative aimed at increasing inclusion and diversity in sport and recreation through creative industries in Western Australia. We look forward to supporting this new initiative and encourage those who wish to be part of Filming Our Futures to submit an application form.”
“After the success of last year’s Different Lens short documentary series, Screenwest is excited to be working with Carers WA again to deliver another disability-led screen initiative. Diversity and inclusion is something we are very passionate about, and facilitating this process is very exciting. With one in five Australian’s identifying as living with disability, it’s very important to create space for these voices both in front of and behind the camera,” explained Dr. Jonathan Messer, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at Screenwest.
