Screenwest, ABC Factual and Doc Society are pleased to announce applications are now open for the Environment and Climate Solutions Short Form Initiative.
The national short form documentary initiative is also supported by Screen Tasmania, Screen Queensland, VicScreen and Screen Territory, and is designed to provide opportunities for early career filmmakers to hone their documentary craft and create a short documentary for ABC TV and ABC iview under the mentorship of Doc Society and ABC.
The initiative invites emerging/early career producers to create an enriching, purposeful and inspiring, character driven, 5-10 minute documentary that is environment and climate solutions focused. Up to two documentaries from each state or territory will be greenlit, with each receiving a production budget of $18,000.
Successful applicants will participate in a series of online lab workshops led by Doc Society’s Malinda Wink – Global Director of Good Pitch and Hollie Fifer – Director of Australian Programs, alongside Teri Calder – ABC Factual Impact & Partnerships Executive Producer and other key executives from the ABC Factual Commissioning team.
“The ABC is thrilled to partner with Doc Society and State and Territory agencies to help emerging talent hone their documentary craft and have their work seen by a wide audience on ABC TV and ABC iview. They will also build invaluable relationships with the ABC Factual commissioning team who will mentor them through all stages of the filmmaking process as well as grow connections with a global network of change makers.” said Richard Huddleston, ABC Acting Head of Factual and Culture.
“We’re so pleased to be part of this environment and climate solutions initative, at a time when we need stories like these more than ever. This is a fantastic opportunity for early career WA filmmakers to produce conversation-starting, change-inciting content for the ABC.” said Paul Williams, Screenwest Documentary Executive.
The films will form part of the ABC’s significant natural history content for 2023 that will be distributed on ABC TV, ABC TV Plus and ABC iview.
Full guidelines and applications are now open at the Doc Society portal. The application deadline is 11:59pm AEST (9:59pm AWST) on Sunday 21 August 2022.
