‘Devil’s Peak’ set to open Revelation Perth International Film Festival next week
Post-produced in Western Australia, Ben Young's US feature - starring Billy Bob Thornton, Robin Wright and Hopper Penn - will make its Australian premiere as it heads up an exciting international festival lineup for 2023.
Post-produced in Western Australia, US crime drama Devil’s Peak is headlining Revelation Perth International Film Festival’s 2023 program, with the festival set to deliver an exciting lineup of Australian and international films at Luna Cinemas, Leederville from 12 – 16 July.
Now in its 26th year, the festival program features 17 documentaries, 16 feature films, a locally made web series, experimental cinema, the annual Industrial Revelations industry program of talks/workshops, a free family friendly animation showcase and over 80 short films.
Directed by Perth filmmaker and Revelation Ambassador, Ben Young (Hounds of Love, Extinction), Devil’s Peak stars Billy Bob Thornton, Robin Wright, Hopper Penn and WA actor Emma Booth. Set in North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains, the screen adaptation of David Joy’s novel titled Where All Light Tends To Go follows eighteen-year-old Jacob McNeely who is torn between his meth-dealing kingpin father and leaving the mountains forever with the girl he loves.
Co-produced by local production company See Pictures (Breath, The Little Death, June Again), Devil’s Peak completed all sound and picture post-production in Western Australia, including grade, VFX, online, score composition, sound design, foley, final mix and delivery. The film is due to be released online next month.
Western Australian content will continue to be featured throughout the festival’s run, with Screenwest-supported shorts I’m Not a Nurse and Mr Kimberley screening as part of Revelation’s popular Westralia Day alongside a slew of short dramas, comedies and documentaries. The highly-anticipated annual event Get Your Shorts On! will close this year’s festival and includes the 2023 short documentaries commissioned by the City of Vincent.
Revelation’s Industrial Revelations event is also set to return, with special industry guests from Roadshow Films, Umbrella Entertainment and Cyan Films meeting WA filmmakers and joining the festival’s program of panels, discussions and workshops.
The festival runs from Wednesday, 12 July to Sunday, 16 July at Luna Cinemas Leederville. The full line-up is online and on sale now at revelationfilmfest.org.
