NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Held from July 3 to 10 this year, NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on Earth. To support your local First Nations community and participate in a range of activities and events – search for local events here.

In recognition of the week we are highlighting several Western Australian screen projects made by Indigenous filmmakers in recent years, including long form drama, documentary, comedy and children’s content – all currently available to stream in Australia.
Mystery Road: Origin
The brand new third season, Mystery Road: Origin takes us back to the beginning, following Jay Swan (Mark Coles Smith), a young officer who takes up his first posting in an outback mining town. Filmed in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Coolgardie in WA.

Thalu
Filmed in the Pilbara region, the ABC Me and NITV series follows a group of kids who have to make their way to the Thalu, a place of great power, when their country comes under threat from a huge dust cloud and the mysterious Takers that lurk within.

Family Rules
An NITV documentary series that provides exclusive insight into modern Indigenous family life, following the chaotic and hilarious Perth lives of nine sisters and their super-mum Daniella. The three seasons were created, produced and directed by WA’s Karla Hart.

Our Law
At WA’s first Indigenous-run police station in Warakurna, two Noongar officers learn Yarnangu Lore and culture and master the local Ngaanyatjarra language to police in a more meaningful way. Stay tuned for the full six-part documentary series commissioned by NITV.

KGB
Set in Perth’s notorious KGB (Koondoola, Girrawheen, Balga), the series follows two rookie detectives, tough guy Jack and gentle giant Nigel, as they deal with the chaos of their new jobs, no-nonsense boss, work rivals, drug dealers and suspects who consistently turn out to be family.
