Cassandra Nguyen announced as new Chair of Diversity Leadership Group
The Diversity Leadership Group is also calling out for expressions of interest to join the group in 2022.
The WA Screen Industry Diversity Leadership Group (DLG) has announced that Cassandra Nguyen has been appointed as Chair, taking over the role from Tania Chambers, who has been and continues to be an active member of the group since its inception in 2017.
“It’s an exciting time to be part of the diversity space and the DLG look forward to promoting equity and inclusion in the WA screen sector.” said Cassandra Nguyen, DLG Chair.
Cassandra’s first order of business as Chair is to open expressions of interest for new members, to help further increase the accessibility and diversity of the screen industry.
What is the DLG?
- A collective of screen industry representatives who share their experience and knowledge to assist in the delivery of the WA Screen Industry Diversity and Inclusion Roadmap
- All members of the DLG identify as diverse and/or have direct experience living with, supporting and encouraging diversity initiatives, activities and people
- The DLG gathers 4 times a year to share their experience and knowledge with Screenwest
- The DLG aims to achieve increased participation and representation from diverse groups across the screen industry in Western Australia
- With screen industry support, the Roadmap aims to strengthen the richness and creativity of screen storytelling and in doing so, deliver social and economic dividends for the industry.
- The DLG and the industry as a whole, with the support of Screenwest, play an important role in the Roadmap’s intent to achieve a meaningful shift towards a more diverse and inclusive screen industry

Who the DLG is looking for:
For the purposes of the Roadmap, the WA screen industry broadly recognises diversity as differences in many areas (below). The DLG is looking for filmmakers who identify as embracing differences in:
- gender
- age
- Indigenous identity
- cultural and linguistic diversity
- disability
- sexuality and gender identities including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+)
- location (including urban communities and remote regions)
- socio-economic status, and
- intersections of the above
How to submit:
If you’re a Western Australian filmmaker who either identifies as diverse and/or has direct experience in living with, supporting and encouraging diversity / implementing diversity initiatives and activities and people and you’re interested in contributing to the conversation, please email your CV and a one-page statement to Cassandra Nguyen, DLG Chair addressing the following criteria:
- Your background and/or experience working in the WA film/arts/digital industry
- Statement addressing your own experiences with diversity and/or inclusivity practices.
- The contribution you think you could make to the Diversity Leadership Group
Expressions of interest are due to Cassandra Nguyen by Tuesday, 8 February 2022 at 5:00pm AWST.
