About the Course
The VR 360 Short Filmmaking Course is presented by Visor Immersive in partnership with NEXT GEN and supported by the Screenwest Screen Industry Skills Development Fund.
The course led by Mahmudul (Raz) Raz is a short, entry-level, part-time Virtual Reality (VR) filmmaking course. It explores the fundamental requirements of 360 video production and is designed to provide a general overview of VR theory, practical uses and tools and equipment.
Who is it for?
This course is relevant and applicable to those with a keen interest in VR and in developing the fundamental skills necessary to create 360 video content.
There are no prerequisites for this course, however the course is designed for those with basic filmmaking skills and would appeal to writers, directors, cinematographers, producers and editors.
What will you learn?
Upon completion of the course, participants will have an understanding of:
- The state-of-play for VR – local, national and international status
- The future of VR and where it is heading
- Differentiation between VR mediums
- Comparisons to and differences from traditional storytelling
- Pre-production planning
- Production constraints and limitations, and how to work with them
- Key techniques and principles for working with 360-video, including key issues and points for consideration
- The post-production process
- Distribution and marketing, including personal promotion
- How to develop a career in the industry, with guidance from industry professionals
Participants will gain the skills necessary to:
- Work as part of a production team, practically and pragmatically, within the constraints and limitations of their production
- Plan productions from concept to delivery
- Operate 360 cameras, lighting and sound recording equipment
- Run a film set specific to 360 production
- Understand the offline editing, sound design, colour-grade and online editing processes
- Confidently produce short films, applying technical and practical skills to their own productions

How to Apply
The course fee is $176 (inc. GST) per person and includes refreshments, course materials and smartphone compatible VR headset for use during the course.

About Mahmudul Raz
Mahmudul (Raz) Raz is a dedicated cinematographer and all-round filmmaker who exhibits a true love for the art of the motion pictures.
He is a Cinematography Lecturer and Technical Director at the WA Screen Academy who brings international experience, as well as advanced knowledge from continued coursework.
Raz has a passion for VR and has worked on a range of short and corporate VR 360 productions as Executive Producer and Technical Director. He has also developed VR 360 courses through the Film and Television Institute (FTI) and WA Screen Academy and mentors and lectures VR 360 (interactive, short films, documentaries, web series and client-based projects) at WA Screen Academy.
Raz will be the lead presenter of this course and producer.
About Jasmine Leivers
Jasmine Leivers is a Producer at Sandbox Productions and Founder of NEXT GEN. She works on corporate, advertisements and creative video productions as well as post-producing long-form feature films and TV series. She also manages her own production company Jasmine Rose Productions.
Jasmine was most recently a finalist in the WA Young Achiever Awards in the 2018 Arts and Fashion Award and has produced a range of award-winning short films, including VIVA LA VINCENT, a City of Vincent funded short documentary which won Best Comedy at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival.
Two years ago, she produced a low budget horror 360 short film. Jasmine is now listed as a VR/360 Perth Producer on Blend Media’s worldwide database.
Jasmine is the course coordinator and will assist in producing the two short 360 films.
Screen Industry Skills Development Fund
The Screen Industry Skills Development Fund is designed to provide support to not-for-profit screen industry organisations, established production companies and experienced industry practitioners to deliver professional skills development opportunities to Western Australian screen practitioners.
