After postponing in 2020, the Emergence Creative Festival, held in Margaret River is back. Centring on innovation and originality, this year’s conference’s theme is making space for creativity. Fusing creative thinking and culture, the Emergence Creative program is designed for those in roles and industries that involve idea generation, creative strategy development, innovation through collaboration and agile problem solving.
As part of this year’s conference, there will be a Screen Stream, with sessions looking into the future and new tools, exploring screen industry challenges and taking an in depth look at what’s next for film and content creation. This special initiative presented by Screenwest and Lotterywest is aimed at supporting and developing Western Australian screen makers and connecting them with new creative industries and practitioners.
Screenwest’s Interim Talent Development Manager Chantal Chateauneuf is excited at the prospect of cross collaborations throughout the conference. “Emergence Creative connects practitioners from a variety of different backgrounds under the banner of new ideas and creativity. I look forward to WA screen practitioners developing new concepts, forming new relationships, and discovering new collaborative, cross-platform opportunities.”
A Screen Stream pass will give you access to three screen focused sessions and the Closing night of Emergence Creative in Margaret River.

Creating enduring content in today’s fast paced and on-demand world
Wednesday 9 June, Featuring Amanda Morrison Hosted by Brooke Thomas from CinefestOz Film Festival
In the increasingly cluttered and fragmented screen entertainment marketplace, Amanda Morrison at Komixx is creating content for the iGeneration who have grown-up with digital and mobile delivery of on-demand and linear programming. They are familiar and comfortable with interpreting the wealth of information conveyed by digital social media and use it as one of their principal selection tools for content consumption. As a key challenge, Komixx has worked hard to build creative strategies which mirror the global ambitions of the SVOD and online-audio broadcasters. Amanda will share her story, what’s guided her decisions and how to navigate the future for film and content creation.

Music Licensing for creative content
Friday 11 June, Featuring Phylicia Chong & Cody Greenwood Hosted by Brooke Thomas from CinefestOz Film Festival
Have you ever been watching a film or your favourite television show, then suddenly you find yourself frantically trying to Shazam the song playing over that intense montage scene? Maybe you’re making a cuppa during the ad break and you suddenly hear an absolute bop that you just HAVE to groove along to? In its simplest form, ‘sync’ is the marriage of music to visual media. Music licensing can seem like a complicated process, so this workshop aims to unveil some of its mysteries, along with empowering creators with the confidence to use commercial music in their projects.
Please note, this pass does not provide access to the full conference and other sessions. Screenwest will not be liable for any additional costs incurred outside the Screen Stream pass and advises that applicants have to pay their own travel and accommodation costs, and attend the physical event at their own discretion under COVID-19 health regulation directions.
