Screenwest is pleased to announce that short form production initiative Elevate is being rolled out again for 2024, with applications now open.
Elevate is a professional skills development initiative that provides production funding for a scripted project (film or series) up to 10 minutes in length, to serve as a calling card for early to mid-career Western Australian filmmakers.
The initiative is designed to support Western Australia’s most talented emerging filmmakers who are committed to a career in film and television.
The Elevate program has two streams:
- Elevate30 will provide up to 3 filmmaking teams with up to $30,000 each for a project up to 10 minutes in length.
- Elevate70 will provide up to 3 filmmaking teams up to $70,000 each for a project up to 10 minutes in length.
Short films and series remain an important and effective part of professional development for writers, directors, and producers, with a number of success stories demonstrating clear career pathways for WA talent.
A slew of Elevate projects have been Official Selections at local, national and international festivals, broadcast nationally and/or nominated for industry awards including Judas Collar, Raising Thunder, Wirnitj, Bird Drone, The Fan, LIFT, Sparkles, Two Sands, In Australia, Carmentis and Antecedents and The Shapes.
WA directors Zoe Pepper, Miley Tunnecliffe and David Vincent Smith all produced Elevate projects before going on to receive Screenwest’s coveted West Coast Visions initiative to produce their debut feature films, Birthright, Proclivitas and He Ain’t Heavy respectively.
