26 WA soundies score ASSG nominations
26 Western Australian sound recordists, boom operators, sound editors, and sound mixers have been nominated for the 2022 Australian Screen Sound Guild (ASSG) Awards. Congratulations to all nominees!
The 2022 screen awards season is kicking off, with an impressive 26 Western Australian screen sound practitioners receiving nominations for the 2022 Australian Screen Sound Guild (ASSG) Awards.
The ASSG represents the profession of screen sound in film, television, multimedia and other related audio industries. Through their annual awards, the Guild recognises excellence and achievement within the screen sound crafts.
The nominees are made up of sound recordists, boom operators, sound editors, and sound mixers. The 26 WA practitioners are recognised across seven projects, including ABC drama series Mystery Road: Origin, season 7 of documentary series Aussie Gold Hunters and feature documentary Facing Monsters.
The WA nominees include:
- Ric Curtin ASSG, Xoe Baird and Jeremy Ashton – Facing Monsters (Best Sound for a Documentary)
- Glenn Dillon – Fire Inside (Best Sound for a Documentary)
- Nick Gallagher, Owen Hughes, Jeremy Ashton, Gavin Repton, Brett Stayt, Ben Ohayon, Glenn Martin, Tam Glover, Shaun Sandosham, Terri Bellem and Rhien Tan – Aussie Gold Hunters (Best Sound for Lifestyle, Reality or Factual Entertainment)
- Owen Hughes – Martin Clunes’: Islands of the Pacific (Best Sound for Lifestyle, Reality or Factual Entertainment)
- Trevor Hope ASSG, Ben Cowman, Alexander Blocher and Rebekah Ashmore – Mystery Road: Origin (Best Sound for a Television Series)
- Les Fiddess and Terri Bellem – Troppo (Best Sound for a Television Series)
- Benjamin Morris, Kim Lord, Alex Wilson, Richard Hubbard, Xoe Baird, Christopher Phillips and Steve Trowbridge – Pieces (Best Sound for an Independent Feature Film)

The WA chapter of the ASSG are holding a ‘Meet the Nominees’ event at the Backlot Perth on 22 October, where they will chat about the location recording, sound editing and mixing processes undertaken on the nominated projects. Tickets available here.
