Screenwest and Stan Partner on New Development Initiative to Boost Western Australian Productions

Screenwest is announcing a new development initiative with Stan. The core focus of the initiative is to foster local talent and spark the development of new series in WA.

Screenwest is excited to be working with Stan on this new development program. After a succession of popular Australian commissioned series on the streaming service with titles such as No Activity, Bloom, The Gloaming and The Other Guy, this special initiative is an exciting new opportunity for a Western Australian production to join the ranks with the help of a $20,000 development fund.

Screenwest Development and Production Executive Franziska Wagenfeld said, “Screenwest is committed to building a strong drama production industry in WA. We’re delighted to host an exclusive session with Stan, giving WA practitioners the opportunity to pitch to Stan’s commissioning editor with the aim of developing a home-grown WA series.”

Nick Forward, Stan’s Chief Content Officer, said of the new initiative, “We’re really looking forward to working with Screenwest to discover fresh local talent and ultimately bring new stories from WA creatives to life. We can’t wait to see what brilliant ideas come out of the program.”

Stage 1: Online Briefing Session

Hosted by Screenwest’s Development and Production Executive Franziska Wagenfeld, this session is aimed at interested practitioners and production companies that are developing high quality content and original ideas, backed up by a strong production background.

Stan’s Nick Forward will discuss what Stan is and isn’t looking for and what sparks their attention when being pitched new concepts.

Expressions of interest are now closed.

Stage 2: Pitch Submissions

In the week following the session, attendees will be invited to submit a one-pager detailing the projects they wish to pitch to Stan.

Submissions must be made through the Screenwest SmartyGrants Portal, closing Tuesday, 6 April 2021 at 5:00pm AWST.  Submissions will only be accepted by attendees (or representatives of the attendees) of the session.

If you attended the information session and are ready to submit, your pitch, please refer to the link you were emailed via SmartyGrants. If you are unable to find this email, please contact Screenwest.

Stage 3: One-on-One Meetings
