SINGLE LADIES available to binge online
Western Australian web series SINGLE LADIES has premiered online and is free to access in full on Hyvio.
SINGLE LADIES tells the story of a controversial radio show run by two strong, confident women attempting to navigate the murky waters of relationships.
As radio hosts, on air Nina (Alexandra Nell) and Catherine (Megan Hollier) are successful women, offering advice and talking about the dos and don’ts of the dating world; off air they’re an absolute mess.
After learning that their radio show has been cancelled to be replaced by a male shock jock duo who are anything but PC, unpredictable shenanigans ensue as Nina and Catherine attempt to save their show.
SINGLE LADIES Creative Team
SINGLE LADIES brings together lead actors and co-creators Alexandra Nell (KOKO: A RED DOG STORY, RATTLESNAKE) and Megan Hollier (THE HEIGHTS), with directors Gemma Hall, Jacqueline Pelczar and Mimi Helm for a project that breaks new ground for an empowering Australian comedy series.
“It’s really important to give agency to the people you’re representing,” said Director Gemma Hall.
“So many female stories are told by men, it just doesn’t make sense to me.
“Having all the ladies up front on this meant that we gave women the control over a story that belongs to them.”
Director Mimi Helm added, “There’s still so many untold stories about women and other minorities yet to be explored. Our culture has been focused on male experiences for so long, it’s refreshing anytime you get to see things from a new perspective”.
“It’s been a journey to get this comedy series to screen and we couldn’t have done it without the help of our many friends and supporters,” said Producer Joshua Gilbert.
“We’re proud to have created the series with some of WA’s most exciting talent, coming together to tell fresh, bold stories about women, from a women’s perspective.”
“It’s exciting seeing such an edgy, sensual and funny web series being produced as a result our Elevate Initiative, especially one that features so many talented women both in front of and behind the camera,” said Screenwest Talent Development Manager Eva Di Blasio.
“I can’t wait to see what the SINGLE LADIES team has in store for us next!”
The series is currently enjoying a successful international festival run, with official selection at the 2019 Pilot Light TV Festival, Seoul and Sicily Web Festivals and Melbourne WebFest.
