After extensive consultation with the screen industry, the Industry Advisory Group (IAG) and key stakeholders, Screenwest is now launching the updated Production Guidelines and Terms of Trade in conjunction with the announcement of the first production funding round for 2018 being Monday, 12 February 2018.

The Production Guidelines and Screenwest Terms of Trade have been updated to reflect the current Screenwest Strategic Plan 2016 – 2021 and to coincide with Screenwest’s new structure as a not-for-profit organisation, independent from Government.

Another key consideration triggering these updates was due to Screenwest securing the Western Australian Regional Film Fund (WARFF). The Fund has provided WA a significant opportunity to be more competitive than ever, attracting high profile productions to the State and resulting in screen industry growth and economic and cultural benefits for Western Australia. To optimise the opportunity, Screenwest has ensured that the Production Guidelines are now aligned to the WARFF Guidelines.

The updated guidelines include detailed assessment criteria, that enable independent panels and/or Screenwest management to assess projects based on their creative and cultural benefit to the State and prioritise WA stories over non-WA stories.

Key changes to the Production Guidelines and Terms of Trade include:

  • Drama Production Guidelines being split into two separate categories, ‘Scripted’ and ‘Footloose’
  • All three guidelines (Scripted, Footloose and Documentary) now include a Western Australian Elements table within the eligibility criteria to ensure projects support the local industry by including Western Australian producers, directors, writers, crews, locations and copyrights. The capped amounts and grant thresholds have also been refined based on recommendations by the screen industry.
  • Production funding under $500 000 will now be contracted as a grant.

The updated documents are now available on the Production Funding page of the Screenwest website.

Please note that Screenwest funding is limited and highly competitive so applicants are encouraged to contact the relevant Screenwest Program Manager to discuss their project prior to submitting an application:
