Led by Indigenous female writer/directors Kelli Cross and Karla Hart and Shakara Walley producing, the Beyond West/Bardwell Media co-production NYOONGAR FOOTY MAGIC – A TEAM OF CHAMPIONS will have a special sneak preview screening Sunday, 10 December from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Subiaco Oval.
The event marks the last official football function to be held at Subiaco Oval and is supported by the Western Australian Football Commission and Screenwest.
This family friendly event is open to everyone who wants to spend some last moments at Subi and watch a selection of pieces from the NYOONGAR FOOTY MAGIC series on the scoreboard screen before it goes to air on NITV and AFL Footy Channels in 2018.
NYOONGAR FOOTY MAGIC is a documentary series profiling the lives and culture of 24 of the greatest Nyoongar footballers to ever play the game – from Polly Farmer and Barry Cable in the 1960’s to the stars of today, Lance Buddy Franklin, Bradley and Stephen Hill and many other favourites over the decades.
“It’s been a privilege to work on this documentary series which recognises and acknowledges the incredible history of these amazing Nyoongar footballers; what they achieved and what they have contributed to the game and community. It’s exciting that this important piece of Nyoongar history is now captured for all of Australia to see,” said Shakara Walley.
Most of the players and some other footy luminaries are expected to be at the commemorative event. The audience will see each player honoured with a medal of recognition for their world leading sporting achievements and have a chance to grab some autographs. There will also be fun event activites including bouncing castles and kick to kick to make this a truly memorable family event
NYOONGAR FOOTY MAGIC was developed and produced with the assistance of Screenwest and Lotterywest, and in association with Australian Football League (AFL) the Western Australian Football Commission, National Indigenous Television (NITV) and a range of commercial sponsors including Woodside Energy, Fortescue Metals Group, the Eagles and Spinifex.
