Guidelines have been released and applications are open for the Screenwest / ABC Children’s Television Diversity Internship.

Last month at the launch of the Screenwest Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan, Julianne Goss ABC National Manager Productions, ABC Studios & Media Production, announced the Diversity Internship which will facilitate paid production experience for emerging Western Australian practitioners from a diverse background or an under represented community within ABC Children’s productions at ABC Ultimo in Sydney.

Michael Carrington, ABC Head of Children’s and Education is looking forward to welcoming an emerging West Australian creative to join their team.

“This joint initiative promotes diversity in all of its forms and provides an opportunity for practitioners to contribute and learn from experienced industry professionals whilst progressing their careers and building a network for future opportunities within the industry.”

The successful applicant will spend up to 24 weeks working within the ABC Children’s Production Department building their professional experience, expanding their skills in creative development, and developing contacts within busy production team environments.

Depending on prior skills, the internship period will provide a range of immersion opportunities such as taking on the responsibilities of a runner, researcher or coordinator, with a production credit for the work completed.

“This Diversity Internship is just the next in line of purposeful initiatives coming out of the Screenwest Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan.  This partnership with our friends at the ABC will no doubt launch a career of a diverse WA creative and we look forward to hearing about their experience,” said Ian Booth Screenwest CEO.

This is a one-off initiative, with one intake this financial year.

A two-stage assessment process will be undertaken.  Screenwest will shortlist and ABC will select the one successful applicant from the shortlist.

Applications close on Monday, 20 November 2017 at 5:00pm WST.

Guidelines which contain detailed information about funding available, eligibility, how to apply and the assessment process can be found here on the Screenwest website.
