The Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) is Australia’s premier event for documentary, factual and unscripted screen content. Based at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne and featuring a four-day marketplace, forum and screening program, AIDC attracts a diverse mix of broadcasters, storytellers, entrepreneurs and documentary fans from Australia, the Asia-Pacific and beyond. The 23rd AIDC takes place from 4 – 7 March 2018 and registrations open Wednesday, 8 November 2017.

The AIDC has opened entries for The FACTory – AIDC’s International Pitching Forum for documentary and factual projects. The AIDC is seeking applications from producers with nonfiction screen work at any stage of development, production or post-production, who are looking for feedback, funding, pre-sales or co-production opportunities.

The centerpiece of the annual AIDC Marketplace, The FACTory gives filmmakers and producers an exciting opportunity to pitch nonfiction screen projects directly to top level local and international buyers and decision makers in a live event setting.

Producers get immediate expert feedback on their projects, and the potential to secure funding, pre-sales and development deals.

Plus, for the first time in 2018, projects selected for The FACTory will also compete for The Unfinished Prize for Documentary, presented by Wide Open Road Coffee Roasters, The Saturday Paper and AIDC to the best pitch and valued at $50,000.

Rebecca Barry of Media Stockade, and producer of FACTory 2017 project Double Happiness said “Being a part of the AIDC FACTory was an incredible opportunity for us to pitch our projects to an audience of international decision makers. We walked away with a presale and strong partnerships which will enable us to complete the film.”

Previous decision makers and buyers have included representatives from BBC Storyville, Canal+, PBS USA, CuriosityStream, Discovery, National Geographic, VICE, ABC, SBS, Vendetta Films, The Guardian, NHK Japan, Tribeca Film Institute, BBC Scotland, Sky TV NZ, and many more.

Applications for The FACTory are now open and will close 18 December 2017. For more event details including The Unfinished Prize and selection criteria can be found on the FACTory info page.

Participating buyers and decision makers will be announced soon.
