The purpose of this section is to provide filmmakers with a quick overview of the processes associated with filming in the local region.
Successful location filming depends on constructive relations with affected members of the community. This imposes obligations on all involved in the production to respect the local community and ensure that despite any inconvenience, their experience is not an unpleasant one.
The implications of lack of compliance are significant. This may be in relation to public safety, community support and council cooperation, as well as to future filmmakers who will follow in the location footsteps of other productions. Failure to comply may also result in the revocation of the relevant approvals associated with filming.
The local Film Friendly region and/or council will provide a central contact person for all film and television enquiries called the Film Liaison Officer (FLO) who will:
- Assist with the permit application processes where necessary and liaise with relevant personnel to fast track permit applications where possible.
- Assist in sourcing locations to match script specifications.
- Provide local information including
- Council services and statutory requirements
- Emergency services
- Local community groups and organisations
- Accommodation providers
Permission to film within the Council is required where there will be:
- Public land use
- Local government land use
- Public, business and/or community group disruption
- Anticipated use of a site that is contrary to existing regulations
- Traffic Management issues
- Emergency service requirements
Consultation with the Council’s Film Liaison Officer is recommended before filming begins on private property.
To apply for permission to film in the area, an ‘Application to Film’ form must be completed.
