The commencement of the Screenwest Strategic Plan led to the completion of our structural transition, a major change benefiting both the organisation and the screen industry.
Screenwest Incorporated has ceased to be an agency of Western Australian State Government. Consequently, it has transferred its incorporation from the State based Associations Incorporated Act 2015 to become a company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act (C’th).
By this process, Screenwest (Australia) Limited became independent from the Western Australian State Government. It is now an independent, not for profit organisation with the charitable purpose of advancing culture.
Screenwest (Australlia) Ltd still receives funding from the State Government to help achieve its purpose. It is pursuant to two funding agreements: the first between Screenwest (Australia) Ltd and The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and the second between Screenwest (Australia) Ltd and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
Screenwest (Australia) Ltd also receives funding from Lotterywest.
This funding allows Screenwest (Australia) Ltd to continue its work, particularly:
- advancing culture
- driving diversity in the screen industry
- supporting and collaborating with local producers and practitioners at all stages of their careers
- and engaging with the community of Western Australia.
