‘Red Dog’ wins over audiences
Roadshow Films Managing Director Joel Pearlman said: "This is an outstanding start for Red Dog at the Australian box office. It is always exciting when a local production finds a substantial audience and Red Dog has absolutely connected with audiences in cinemas this past weekend."
Producer Nelson Woss added: "It's a fantastic response to the film - the critics have embraced it, and now we are delighted that audiences around Australia are discovering and enjoying Red Dog at the cinema!"
Starring Josh Lucas, Rachael Taylor and an ensemble cast including Luke Ford, Arthur Angel, John Batchelor, Rohan Nichol, Noah Taylor, Loene Carmen and Keisha Castle-Hughes, Red Dog is the story of a charismatic kelpie who roamed the West Australian outback in the 1970s, hitching rides, adopting people and uniting communities along the way.
Adapted from the novel Red Dog by the award-winning author Louis de Bernières (Captain Corelli's Mandolin) with screenplay by Daniel Taplitz, the film was directed by Kriv Stenders and produced by Nelson Woss and Julie Ryan.
Red Dog had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, won the Audience Award at the Vail Film Festival in Colorado, opened the Australian Film Festival in London and was named Best Film at the Showcomotion Young Peoples Film Festival in May.
