WA graduates Trapped in Broome
The graduates' employment on the children's series came about as a result of the relationship between Trapped producer Bruce Best and Andrew Lewis, the Associate Director of the WA Screen Academy, who had previously directed episodes of Ocean Star (also shot in Broome), which Bruce produced.
WA Screen Academy graduates Ben Young, Sam Barrett, Claire Marshall and Paul Komadina have each been selected to direct a block of episodes, while editor Ivan Davidov, 1st AD, Dayne Blundell-Camden and Camera and Editing Assistant, Ben Pascoe, have also been hired to work on the production.
But the connection between the production and the University doesn't end there...
The Script Producer of the series is Tracey Defty-Rashid, who is a Masters Graduate of the Scriptwriting program at ECU, while Lucinda Marty and Bn Young, both graduates of the Screen Academy, have written episodes for the series. Ceiwen Langley started off doing a Professional Placement with the Script Department, and was later hired as the Script Editing Assistant.
Other ECU graduates working on the production include Kathryn Dart (Script Supervisor/Continuity) and WAAPA graduates Sandy Mitchell and Jonelle Holman, who are handling Wardrobe.
Director of the WA Screen Academy, John Rapsey said he was delighted at his past students' success in gaining employment on the series.
"This is a terrific affirmation of our philosophy of getting students industry-ready across a range of formats and genres, for both small and large screen, said John.
"We are extremely proud of these talented graduates who have gained a foothold in broadcast television so early in their careers."
Trapped follows the mysterious events at a remote research station, which compels a group of children to battle a faceless enemy in a dangerous paradise. The series is currently being filmed in Broome, and is produced by Northway Productions for the Seven Network.
Trapped is supported by ScreenWest and Lotterywest.
