Purpose and Scope:

ScreenWest is pleased to again partner with the Asia Australia Media Executive Leadership Program (AAMELP) to be held in Sydney from 23-28 November 2008.

ScreenWest will provide funding of three full scholarships for senior and mid level professional filmmakers to attend the Program.

AAMELP is a five-day course aimed at developing entrepreneurial, strategic leadership and management skills to enable participants to strengthen their companies and to better meet the challenges of the evolving global marketplace.

The program offers a unique blend of disciplined exposure to high-level industry-specific information, senior-level leadership and management training and personal inventories to better assess individual strengths and weaknesses. The Program provides insights into team building and performance. Specific case studies translate leadership development into applied, real situations.

AAMELP is targeted at the next generation of leaders in the world of screen production, media and communications: producers, broadcasters, distributors, and senior executives in related service and specialist fields as well as public agencies. The purpose of the Program is to enhance entrepreneurial, strategic leadership and management skills, enable participants to strengthen their organizations and to better meet the challenges of the evolving global marketplace.

Subjects covered in AAMELP include:

  • Strategic thinking and planning;
  • Understanding the changing world of television and application of leadership practices,
  • Branding and market positioning,
  • Personal leadership style,
  • Human resources, change & innovation leadership,
  • Integrating television & media industry processes,
  • Building asset value through sustainable strategy, alliances, mergers & acquisitions.

The program will draw on extensive international industry expertise in its core faculty and the guest executives.

Financial Assistance and Conditions:

ScreenWest will provide up to three full scholarships of US $5,000 each to cover the cost of participation in the workshop in the form of a non-recoupable grant.

Additionally, ScreenWest will offer up to $2,500 towards travel/accommodation grants to the successful candidates to assist in covering costs. The balance of the candidates' travel/accommodation and additional expenses will be borne by the candidate.

Eligibility:

The principal criteria for selection is that a Producer has more than one producer credit in any of the following:

  • Television drama series
  • Telefeature
  • Television mini-series
  • Theatrically released feature film
  • Broadcast documentary or documentary series
  • Broadcast animation
  • Interactive Media

Or

  • An individual who holds a key executive role within a media production company or associated organisation.

Depending on application numbers, participation may be restricted to only one representative from any one production company or associated organisation.

Applicants should have proven credentials in successful project management and wish to further develop their skills in the strategic aspects of building and managing a stable audiovisual production company.

Applicants must also be willing to discuss the strategic development of their business in an open and transparent forum.

The ScreenWest funded scholarships are available to Western Australian resident Screen Producers only.

Please note: A "Western Australian resident" is someone who has been resident in Western Australia for at least six months prior to submitting the application and is on the electoral roll. 'Being resident in Western Australia' means 'having your usual place of abode in WA'.

  • A completed application form
  • A list of the projects you have produced and those in development
  • A history of your production company / associated organisation
  • CV (producer or key executive role within associated organisation)
  • A 1-2 page statement explaining your business objectives and what you hope to achieve from attending the course
