Expression of interest called for Indigenous Community Stories crew positions

The Film and Television Institute (FTI) is seeking expressions of interest from filmmakers interested in crewing for the Indigenous Community Stories initiative.  Expressions of interest close Monday September 8.

Expressions of interest are being called for these crew positions:

  • Documentary directors (casual)
  • Sound recordists(casual)
  • Camera operators(casual)
  • Editor (permanent part-time)

Indigenous Community Stories is a partnership between ScreenWest and the Film & Television Institute.  The initiative aims to fund the gathering of 100 stories and digitally archive them so they can be viewed over the next 100 years and beyond.

The Indigenous Community Stories recordings will largely comprise of interviews. Essentially the stories will be shot as per a documentary, so experience working on documentaries in highly desirable. Filmmakers with dual skills, such as interviewing skills /camera skills are encouraged to apply.

Indigenous Community Stories will require a permanent part-time editor. The editing will be assembly edits of footage that will be delivered to the storytellers and then be deposited into the digital archive. An editor that is keen to work on the project long term, and with an interest in gaining knowledge about digital audiovisual preservation archives, is required.

The successful crew members will ideally have excellent communication abilities, a passion for the project and be highly motivated.

Although Cultural Awareness Training will be provided to all crew working on Indigenous Community Stories, crew with previous production experience working with Indigenous communities and in regional areas will be highly regarded.
