‘In Conversation’ with Mark Woods: 21 February

ScreenWest is hosting an ‘In Conversation' with Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) Industry Programs Director Mark Woods, who manages MIFF 37ºSouth Market, MIFF Accelerator and MIFF Premiere Fund. Don't miss this opportunity to hear inside information about these programs on Tuesday, 21 February.The exclusive Australia/NZ partner of London's Production Finance Market (PFM), MIFF 37ºSouth Market brings up to 90 Australia/NZ feature film producers together with more than 35 local and international sales agents and buyers. The invite-only four-day event features individually-diarized meetings between selected producers and film buyers, roundtables, networking events, screenings and panel sessions. The 2012 edition of the market will shortly be calling for applications - so the session will offer key tips for applying and the inside track on how the market works.
Australian films to have advanced their financing at MIFF 37ºSouth Market include Balibo, My Year Without Sex, Griff The Invisible, Patrick and Beautiful Kate, while completed films to have secured sales and/or distribution deals include Surviving Georgia, I am Eleven, The Wedding Party and Blind Company, amongst others.
MIFF Accelerator is a workshop for short film directors seeking to make the transition to feature filmmaking. Alumni include David Michod (Animal Kingdom), Justin Kurzel (Snowtown), Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones), Leon Ford (Griff the Invisible), Nash Edgerton (The Square), Glendyn Ivin (Last Ride), Tony Krawitz (The Tall Man).
The MIFF Premiere Fund offers minority co-financing to quality feature-length projects that will have their International premiere at MIFF. To date, some 25 films have received co-financing from MIFF Premiere Fund, including Balibo, Blessed, Not Quite Hollywood and WA's Blame, Bran Nue Dae and These Final Hours.
Mark has extensive experience within the screen industry starting in various editor/reporter positions for industry publications, including Variety, leading to Head of Acquisitions and Content Investment for Showtime Australia, CEO of the Irish Film Board and then Ausfilm.
